The Madonna del Baldacchino by Raphael is back to the Palatine Gallery

The large altarpiece has been relocated in the Saturn Room after one year away

The Madonna del Baldacchino by Raphael is back on display in the Saturn Room of the #PalatineGallery of #PittiPalace, where it has been since 1828, when the Gallery was opened to the public. The work has been on loan to an exhibition in the Duomo of Pescia (Pistoia, Tuscany), where it was placed in the family chapel of Baldassarre Turini, a close friend of Raphael. Baldassarre bought the painting in Florence, where Raphael had left it unfinished once he was called by the Pope to work for him in Rome. Before and after the exhibition, the Madonna del Baldacchino underwent thorough technical surveys and diagnostic analyses at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence.

The Saturn Room gathers no less than eight masterpieces by Raphael: there are also the three stunning portraits by Francesco Maria della Rovere, Fedra Inghirami and Cardinal Bibbiena, the small Vision of Ezekiel and the touching Madonna of the Grand Duke and Madonna della Seggiola.
