Palm - Washingtonia Filifera

The Washingtonia Filifera is a palm tree native to southern California, southwestern Arizona and northern Mexico. Veryvigorous and highly developed, with a thick, brown, stipe that is enlarged at its base. The fan-shaped leaves have a petiole up to 2 m long. It blossoms from June to August and the flowers are small and joined in creamy white clusters; the fruits are black and berry-like. It can withstand temperatures down to -10/-12°C, indeed, it is one of the most hardy palms for temperate climates. Fairly fast growing, it requires well-drained soil and a sunny exposure. This palm is suitable for being planted in public areas on coastlines and is widely cultivated in private gardens, especially Mediterranean ones.
