Filippo Lippi in the Valdelsa
Lands of the Uffizi returns to Montespertoli with Filippo Lippi's beautiful "Barbadori Predella"
The Lands of the Uffizi returns to the Valdelsa, to Montespertoli, with the exceptional loan of a painting known as the “Barbadori Predella” by Fra Filippo Lippi (Florence, c. 1406 – Spoleto, 1469) from the collection of the Gallerie degli Uffizi.
This is the third event in the ‘Lands of the Uffizi’ project, devised by the Fondazione CR Firenze and the Gallerie degli Uffizi in the context of their respective Piccoli Grandi Musei and Uffizi Diffusi schemes, which kicked off in 2021 with painting in the age of Giotto represented by a picture by Lippo di Benivieni and continued in 2022 with a testimonial of the works of art sheltered for safety in the castle of Montegufoni during World War II. Until 29 October, the exhibition entitled “Filippo Lippi in the Valdesa” will be hosted by the Museo d’Arte Sacra di San Piero in Mercato whose permanent collection already includes another work by this Renaissance master, a Madonna and Child from the church of Sant’Andrea a Botinaccio.
The exhibition offers visitors an unprecedented opportunity to explore Filippo Lippi’s art in greater depth and to appreciate the way he modulated his handling of expression according to the context – narrative in the predella, devotional in the Madonna and Child.
