Ilaria Cattabriga - The Rooms of the Old Masters in 1956. The museographic project
Lecture in Italian - Vasari Auditorium – 30th January 2019
Ilaria Cattabriga presents her research on the reconstruction of the Uffizi's rooms devoted to the Old Masters by architects Giovanni Michelucci, Carlo Scarpa and Ignazio Gardella. The starting point was the destruction of part of the supporting structure of the old building by German soldiers during the Second World War. Under the direction of Roberto Salvini, the three architects thought about the rearrangement of the rooms by taking into account, in a very modern perspective, the spatial and lighting factors, in order to create a museum space, which accompanies the visitor on an educational visit that give up on the chronological order of art history rather preferring groupings by schools.
