The Boboli Gardens' Aquarium

Video in Italian | The large basin with around 50 species of water plants

The Aquarium is the large circular basin with about fifty species of aquatic plants, designed by Filippo Parlatore between 1870 and 1880 after the model of the Botanical Garden in Palermo. The flowering of the different species of water lilies can be admired from the end of June and, during the summer, they put on a real show of colours and shapes embellishing the Upper Botany's Garden.
Today one of our gardeners illustrates the difference between native and tropical water lilies and teaches us an old method that allows to recognize all the varieties of the Aquarium.
