The Calumny by Botticelli
Video in Italian | The masterpiece by the Florentine painter described through the words of Lucian of Samosata
In contemporary language it is called fake news! It is simply a false news.
In 1494 Sandro Botticelli executed an allegory of the Calumny. Yet in order to set up some false news, a sort of theatrical setting is needed: someone who spreads it, someone who gives it a shade of truth, etc. Here Sandro #Botticelli succeeds in putting a real set design in painting. An off-screen voice illustrates it with narrative audacity.
This is the first of a series of literary-themed works entitled "Painted Tales", dedicated to the World Poetry Day on 21st March and to Dante Day on 25th March.
