Wedding gown in figured silk cloth on an old gold satin base with open peony and tiny daisy motifs. The bodice, trapezoid in shape with sides, a neckline and a pointed waistline, is gathered at the bust in soft, horizontal pleats with a vertical seam in the centre reaching down to the waist. The puffed gigot sleeves are fastened by straps of the same fabric with small buttons to fasten them. The skirt has soft folds reaching down to the ground. This gown belonged to Angiola Polese, who was born in Leghorn in 1808. It was made for her as a bridal gown when she wed Giuseppe Ascione in 1836.
Purchased by the State, 1983.
